Short Paper I

Ethical Proof

Choose a "text" (so a commercial or advertisement, television show, children’s book, magazine, novel, short story, news story, editorial, movie, song, music video) that is somehow connected to the main issue you plan to address throughout this semester. Whatever you choose, you will be spending the next two weeks looking at this thing carefully and trying to figure out how ethos plays a persuasive part in this particular text.  Then, you should write a 2-3 page analysis if how the text uses ethos as a persuasive appeal.

You don't have to have the definitive word on what the intentions of the text are; you can suggest various possibilities that might be working (at the same time) in the text.

Guidelines: This project should be typed or word-processed in 12 pt. Times New Roman font and double-spaced.

Your short paper will be due on September 25, and you should be prepared to discuss your analysis with the class.

In order to get credit for doing these short papers, you must show up to class with your finished drafts (and be prepared to talk about your drafts) on the assigned day. Not doing so jeopardizes a large percentage of your course grade.
