What is Digital Culture? Individual/Peer work; Group discussion; Class discussion. We will re-visit this question. A trip in the wayback machine (Facebook, iTunes, MIT, hotmail, NCTE, Whitehouse.gov, NYTimes, Oakland University, Lori's first webpages)...who used the web, why, what did they know how to do? How have our expectations for web users/designers changed? How do we use it now? When did things begin to change? What is Web 2.0? What's the real cost of the virtual world? Homework: Read the introduction and chapters 1 & 2 in Selfe's book. Read over the Reading Response Schedule so you know when you are responsible for posting a response to our class wiki. There are no reading responses due this week. |

Pick a possible site for your wiki essay and find a partner to collaborate with on their wiki essay. By next Thursday, you'll have to know which site you're going to analyze for this wiki work. You'll have until the last day of the semester to complete the wiki work. Introduction to digital stories and movies; creating digital stories and movies in Windows Movie Maker. Homework: Read Chapters 1-3 in Ebo's book; bring a draft of your first analysis project to class next Thursday. I will need a copy of that draft as well. Reading Responses |

Our visit to Second Life (instructions for logging in and for getting access to OU's island are here). Instructions for things to note are here. Instead, visit the online community you're analyzing for your Wiki Essay and answer as many of the questions on this worksheet as apply to the political online community you're investigating. Your answers to those questions will inform your Moodle post for Tuesday, and that post will serve (I hope) as the first draft of your Wiki Essay. |
